This is a comparison chart of the most competitive tablets
from this article SmartPlanet Article describing Apple's Design Advantage
"Sure, we all know that many companies want to follow Apple’s lead in designing elegant, useful, and fun products like the iPad. Apple’s winning design strategy is more than about what meets the eye, however, according to new research by IHS-iSuppli, made public this week. iSuppli tore down the iPad, iPad with 3G, and the iPad 2 with 3G models, and five other competing tablets. Analysts then compared each device’s components. The iSuppli analysts concluded that many of the design advantages of the iPad are the result of Apple’s tight control of its product development process...."

Paper was introduced in the West by Arabians who learned of this commodity through Chinese prisoners. As a result of the Arab conquest of Spain, paper began to be manufactured in Europe. Spanish culture has had a long tradition of paperfolding culminating in Miguel de Unamuno’s "Traité de cocottologie." In the early 20th Century, origami was practiced at the Bauhaus school.
It was only in the mid 20th Century that origami made its quantum leap.
In the 1950’s, a Japanese master incorporated the mechanical craft of folding paper with the artistic aesthetic of sculpture. Akira Yoshizawa created thousands of new models where only a few hundred existed before. All Yoshizawa-san’s origami models sprung from a highly refined artistic version. Yoshizawa-san opened the door for the entire world to discover that origami was not just a children’s hobby, but a complex, sophisticated art-form that transformed a single piece of paper into a beautifully crafted work of art. Yoshizawa-san and Samuel Randlett created the living legacy of international symbols that today lets millions of people share in the creative process of origami.
Today, origami is practiced all over the world. With the proliferation of hundreds of books and websites, there are countless skilled origami artists working in many different directions. Japan’s Tomoko Fuse develops modular origami – puzzles using not only one square but many intricate units folded together. America’s Robert Lang, a laser physicist, creates insects more “alive” than real live ones. Britain’s Paul Jackson reflects on minimalism using the fewest number of creases possible. Some creators prefer to use triangles or rectangles instead of squares; others recycle material like tea-bags or train tickets.

Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea™ : Moby-Dick Marathon
Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea™ : Moby-Dick Marathon
I just returned from Denver, driving a lovely beamy Thistle (varnished 1951 sailboat 17') back with a friend of 40 years. We did it lickety split, I flew from PVD Wed morning (5am) we met in Denver airport at noon and slid back over the most beautiful trip across America you could ever hope for. In July, every mile from Denver to Mystic was GREEN. Thick, bushy, lush, leafy, bountiful, full fields, 8 ft corn, tall grass, huge lots of hay....I mean, at no other time, and there have been many, have I witnessed the whole of the Western plains, under a blanket of verdant growth like this. It's just awesomely beautiful. I need to add that the local water was just below flood stage at many rivers, for 1000 miles. I did't see any particular destruction, but remnants of rampant high water (shallow boats left high in the middle of nowhere). I was amazed by field after field with mostly corn and soy in it's last trimester of growth before harvest. 2000 miles we drove, chatting about family, kids, careers and listening to books. I got the end of a Trial mystery that was suspenseful and then we listened to the whole of Lolita...which felt like the Moby Dick that's running tonight at the Seaport. Nabakov painted an ugly story with rich language that barely makes that whole story palatable much less worthy, in my book. Misleading anyone to think that abusive behavior is at all okay is vile and contemptuous. The language allowed the listener a sophisticated excuse to consider the acts and characters. And it reminded me of the 'unsavory' of my own experiences, too recent for comfort. Argh. 9+10+11 hours later, we arrived to park the cartrailercombo somewhere in front of the house or get stuck in the driveway. Turning around in Shafer's parking lot, we had a Verry Nasty run-in with the proprietor/neighbor. Things rapidly degenerated and I ran to escape another angry hostile drunk. I'm done. To a crisp. Not to mention I disengaged my involvement with the shop and ThaT proprietor. He wants... ahhh. He wants. The drive is Over, I was so pleased to go, I absorbed the land and nature's beauty for 3 non-stop days of interstate. I even have the $4 I left with. My thoughts weren't welcome. As usual. I am driven to the brink. The coast-line of what?
I do think this says to return to my heartland. Breathe in....Breathe out.
You read it here, an original post this time.
~A.
p.s. I want to send all the thoughts I had to the dry areas to the South. The weather is changing rapidly, the behavior of the planet is changing rapidly. The message is change!
