World's biggest cyberattack detected, 1.25bn email addresses sold
An Internet security firm has detected a cyber crime cache of personal data, said to be the world's biggest cyberattack event ever.
A mind-boggling 360 million accounts and 1.25 billion email addresses have been hacked. The security firm, Hold Security, detected one single hacker that had stole over 105 million records, making it the largest single data breach in the history of cyber crime. Hold Security revealed that credentials can be stolen direct from your company and from data services that you have entrusted your data to. In October 2013, the internet security firm detected the biggest ever public disclosure of 153 million records from the computer software company Adobe Systems. Then, just a month later in November, another 42 million credentials were breached from Cupid Media, reports Dublin-based technical magazine Silicon Republic. But just when the security company thought it couldn't get any worse, the first three weeks of February 2014 it identified 360 million stolen credentials put up for sale, along with 1.25 billion email addresses. Hold Security says that the email addresses came from all the big name players including Google Gmail, Microsoft Live and Hotmail, and Yahoo Mail, and that many not-for-profit organizations and virtually all Fortune 500 companies had been affected. ~A.
